Hello again, adventure seekers! Ridge Rider IV has concluded and I can’t help but reflect on the rollercoaster of experiences we've endured. From handling mechanical issues to ensuring rider safety, the past few days have tested our resilience and skill, offering a mix of challenging routes and unpredictable weather that has left me, quite literally, covered in mud.
Day Two: Wallerawang to Mudgee
The second day brought its own set of challenges, starting with unexpected overnight rain that led us to make some quick route changes from Wallerawang to Mudgee. As part of the crew, we were up early, prepping and double-checking each bike to ensure no rider would face preventable mechanical failures. Our efforts paid off—despite the persistent rain into the afternoon, there were very few breakdowns and thankfully no injuries.
Wallerawang, known for its tranquil setting and challenging terrains, and Mudgee, famous for its scenic vineyards, offered a mix of beauty and technical riding that tested every participant’s skill levels.
Day Three: Mudgee to Tamworth
Starting off in the rain, Day Three demanded even more from our crew. As the weather cleared, some riders took the more challenging Black Breakout route, pushing their limits. For us in the support team, this meant being on high alert, ready to assist with any issues. The muddy conditions made our job tougher, especially when even our sweep vehicle struggled. It was a long day, but seeing the riders push through was incredibly rewarding.
Day Four: The Longest Stretch
The route from Tamworth to Port Macquarie was the longest stretch of our journey, covering 400km of diverse conditions. It was a rigorous test for both riders and crew. The persistent drizzle made the tracks slippery, resulting in two serious accidents and several minor offs. As part of the mechanical support team, it was all hands on deck, ensuring that every incident was addressed swiftly to prevent any further issues.
Preparing for the Final Leg
The final leg from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour marked a sense of accomplishment. Each of us faced challenges and pushed our limits, supported by the incredible Moto Trekkin crew.
